Pre-Programme Puntarenas

Itinerary for your Pre-Programme

Day 1: San Jose/Arrival 

Individual arrival at your hotel where you will spend the night and enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure. 

Day 2: San José/Puntarenas 

Meet your guide in the morning and start from your hotel to Costa Ricas´s Pacific coast where you will board a boat to explore the Tárcoles River. This is the richest mangrove forest on the Mid-Pacific coast. The four different species of tree create a lush habitat for over 250 different kinds of birds, including kingfishers, roseate spoonbills, anhingas and great herons. It is also the most important area in the country for the conservation of scarlet macaw, easily recognizable from their bright orange-red. We will also be able to observe the many wild crocodiles that line the riverbanks, one the largest colonies in the world. Some of them grow as long as 15 feet.  

Afterwards enjoy a typical Costa Rican lunch, before being transferred to Puntarenas where your Hurtigruten ship is waiting for you.

Practical information 

Included: 

One hotel night with breakfast in San José. Transfer from San José to the pier in Puntarenas, including a jungle boat tour and lunch

 Not included: dinner and gratuities

Remarks/requirements: 

• Tour starts on day of disembarkation at Puntarenas
• Available to guests with limited mobility on request
• Minimum number of participants: 15
• If the minimum number of participants is not reached, we reserve the right to cancel the land adventure up to six weeks before departure.
