Look for marine mammals, bears, deer, eagles, ravens, water fowl and more during a 30-minute boat ride to the trailhead on Etolin Island.
At the trailhead, guides will lead the way up the 2-kilometre trail of a moderately difficult grade that winds up along Kunk Creek to a three-sided shelter at the head of Kunk Lake. Tall trees line the rainforest trail and salmon work their way up the creek during the spawning season. Be bear aware and keep your eyes and ears open for other wildlife like deer, mink and porcupine.
Lunch is the reward for reaching the lake. The all-American tradition of a hot dog roast, or a salad and perhaps a locally made sandwich, complete with cookies and water.
After a brief rest, it's time to head back down to the beach where your boat awaits for the ride back to Wrangell.
