Tlingit and petroglyphs 

Join your Alaskan guide on a journey through time to learn about the history of Wrangell’s first nation, the Tlingit. Visit Chief Shakes Tribal House and celebrate the heritage of this ancient people with legends that have been passed down through generations. Then, learn about Alaska’s third oldest city at the Wrangell Museum, and discover ancient petroglyphs while combing Petroglyph Beach.

  • Walking information: Walking to and from shuttle to Chief Shakes Island, inside Wrangell Museum, and down a wheelchair accessible ramp to Petroglyph Beach viewing deck. 
  • Wheelchair accessible: Chief Shakes Tribal house & Wrangell Museum are wheelchair accessible. Petroglyph beach itself is not accessible by wheelchair, however the observing deck is wheelchair accessible. Shuttle buses do not have wheelchair loading ramps.
