Welcome to the magnificent and mysterious land of Vesterålen. Often referred to as a “Hiker’s Paradise”, this 1,330-strong archipelago is made up of chalk beaches, emerald forests, and snow-capped mountains – one of which you will enjoy on this excursion.
The tour starts the moment you step foot off the ship, with a transfer to the trailhead in Stokmarknes. Lead by a knowledgeable local guide, you’ll embark on a safe and scenic ascent of Tuva, a majestic peak that stands impressively over one thousand feet (360 meters) above sea level. While the beginning of the route may pose a challenge for less-experienced hikers, the hike itself is not technically difficult, allowing you to focus on admiring the unparalleled beauty that surrounds you.
As we climb, your guide will recount captivating legends of this enchanting area, where trolls and their mischievous daughters take center stage in tales as old as the mountains themselves. At the top, take a moment to catch your breath and soak up the awe-inspiring views over Stokmarknes and our magnificent Hurtigruten ship below, before we make our way back down. A transfer will meet us at the mountain base to whisk us back to ship to continue our voyage.
