Terms and conditions of the 1893 Ambassador Programme
Terms and conditions from 7 November 2023
1. 1893 Ambassador programme membership
1.1 Membership in the Hurtigruten 1893 Ambassador programme is an agreement between Hurtigruten Global Sales AS and the individual member (‘the member’). Membership in the loyalty programme is created by registering a personal profile and giving consent. Consent includes Hurtigruten’s general privacy terms and the specific membership conditions of the 1893 Ambassador programme.
1.2 Membership is on an individual basis. Every member receives their own personal membership number. It is not permitted for one person to have more than one member profile. The membership is registered in the member’s full name together with the personal email address of the member. The minimum age for membership is 18 years. Only natural persons can become members. The use of membership for commercial purposes is not permitted.
1.3 There is no charge for signing up with the 1893 Ambassador programme for Level 1 membership. Higher level membership and some existing and future member benefits may require the purchase of Hurtigruten products and services or only be realised through such purchases.
1.4 Hurtigruten aims to continually expand the scope of member benefits and will regularly launch new benefits, as well as develop and change existing benefits and the programme as a whole. Some benefits will also be of a time-limited nature and others may be removed at Hurtigruten’s discretion without prior notice or compensation.
1.5 Any discounts on Hurtigruten voyages, excursions and other travel arrangement are subject to availability and only for future bookings. Hurtigruten’s standard terms and conditions relating to such bookings will apply, such as cancellation, payment terms and changes to the booking or itinerary. Certain onboard benefits may be provided subject to availability and operating restrictions including compliance with local laws. No cash equivalent refund, credit or alternative benefit or compensation will be provided for any unavailable products or services that are not separately charged for.
1.6 Through the 1893 Ambassador programme, members can receive discounts and offers from Hurtigruten’s programme partners. Any supply of products or services from such partners is a contractual arrangement between the member and the programme partner. Hurtigruten is not a party to such supply arrangement and is not responsible for and accepts no liability for its performance including any errors or omissions in the products or services purchased from programme partners. However, Hurtigruten does request that members who experience any problems with the partners inform Hurtigruten of this.
1.7 Only registered members are entitled to use the membership. Membership and the associated benefits are personal and not transferable. 1893 Ambassador benefits only apply to the individual specified as the member unless otherwise stated.
1.8 Members can cancel their membership at any time. This cancellation is done electronically via a separate cancellation form or by withdrawing their consent referred to in clauses 1.1 and 2. No cash equivalent refund, credit or compensation will be provided in respect of such cancelled membership for any loss of benefits under the programme whether accrued or not. A former member may subsequently re-join the programme subject to its terms but no account will be taken or credit given in relation to any prior membership of the programme including any prior tier criteria or prior voyage stay qualification. In effect their membership will be reset to the programme’s lowest entry level and any previous benefits or entitlements will not apply.
1.9 Hurtigruten reserves the right to approve, reject, suspend or terminate membership at any time, for any reason, or for no specific reason, at its own discretion. No cash equivalent refund, credit or compensation will be provided in respect of such suspended or terminated membership for any loss of benefits under the programme whether accrued or not.
1.10 Without prejudice to the above provision, any breach of these membership terms and conditions, misuse of the membership, or barring from travel with Hurtigruten, gives Hurtigruten the right to terminate the member’s membership with immediate effect. Such suspended or terminated membership may result in the loss of benefits under the programme whether accrued or not.
1.11 Members may progress from Level 1 to Level 2 after satisfying the criteria for Level 2 membership. This is currently a voyage of at least 3 consecutive nights stay with Hurtigruten in a cabin. Hurtigruten may change the criteria for Level membership and Level maintenance from time to time. Members will automatically be upgraded to Level 2 within 48hours from disembarkation of a future qualifying voyage. Members with a future booking should contact the Hurtigruten Customer Service Centre to add their membership number to their booking. If a membership number is not provided at the time of booking or prior to travel, a member may claim a Level 2 upgrade for up to six months from the date of disembarkation of the qualifying voyage.
1.12 At its discretion, Hurtigruten may at any time, increase or decrease the number of levels of membership and/or change the organisation, structure, name and benefits relevant to such levels.
1.13 Subject to clause 1.14 below, Level 1 membership benefits and offers are applicable from time of membership registration and Level 2 membership benefits and offers are applicable from the time of upgrade.
1.14 No membership benefits or offers may be claimed retrospectively by claiming a benefit that a member was entitled to but which was not claimed at the time even if entitled to do so (regardless of whether travel has taken place or not). Any benefits or offers relating to Hurtigruten bookings (including discounts for voyages and excursions or onboard amenities and benefits) shall only apply if the membership is notified to Hurtigruten at the time of the booking and as applicable to the relevant membership level at the time of the booking (regardless of whether travel has taken place or not).
2. Privacy
Membership can only be entered into if consent is given to electronic and postal marketing, and requires the member to provide their name, address, email address and other compulsory personal data at the time of registration. The member accepts that Hurtigruten will register personal data and use it to manage its own member database, and for communication purposes. Hurtigruten will not share personal data with any third parties. In order to send out Hurtigruten campaigns to its members, Hurtigruten shares customer data with mailing houses. These companies are not permitted to share personal data with anyone else.
2.1 Hurtigruten is the data controller for members’ personal data. The privacy policy explains how Hurtigruten collects, uses, and presents personal data.
See the privacy policy for more information on how we process personal data.
2.2 We use advertising networks such as Google, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Your contact details and other relevant data we have registered about you may be delivered to these service providers. We use these kinds of service providers to show you exclusive, tailored, and relevant advertisements, offers, and recommendations and to conduct analyses and develop our services.
2.3 By signing up, members consent to regularly receive information about their current membership status, new programme offerings, membership benefits and offers from Hurtigruten and our partners. This consent can be withdrawn at any time, but this will cancel their membership in the 1893 Ambassador programme.
3. General terms and conditions
3.1 1893 Ambassador programme membership and its benefits are offered at the sole discretion of Hurtigruten Global Sales AS and we reserve the right to change or cancel the programme or parts of it at any time.
3.2 Hurtigruten also reserves the right to change existing terms and conditions at any time. The terms and conditions will be shown on Hurtigruten’s website as revised from time to time. If the member does not wish to accept any revised terms and conditions, the member can unsubscribe from the programme. A members continued participation in the programme (including accessing or obtaining any benefits of the programme) following the posting of revised terms and conditions, will indicate acceptance of the changes.
3.3 Hurtigruten has the right to transfer the membership and/or to duplicate the membership and transfer each duplicate membership (in each case with the associated rights and obligations of such membership or duplicate membership under the terms of this agreement) to another company within the Hurtigruten group or any former group company demerged, transferred or publicly listed following a relevant corporate event provided that such transferee continues to operate a Hurtigruten brand such as Hurtigruten Expeditions and Hurtigruten Norwegian Coastal Express (as such brands may be named from time to time). For example, this may occur as part of a restructuring process and may result in such brands developing separate and distinct loyalty programs for their respective duplicate memberships. The terms of such loyalty programs may in the discretion of each relevant brand, allow for certain benefits to be honoured between each loyalty program.
3.4 Hurtigruten is not responsible for any personal data that the member themself shares with or provides to a third party including Hurtigruten’s partners providing products and services directly to members under this programme.
3.5 It is the member’s responsibility to treat their log-in details, such as their username and password, as confidential. The member is responsible for not providing such information to any third parties. Any transactions carried out using the member’s log-in information shall be considered to have been approved by the member. Hurtigruten does not take responsibility for any transactions conducted through misuse of or unauthorised access to the member’s log-in information. In the event of any suspected or actual misuse, the member themself must contact Hurtigruten as soon as possible to stop or prevent any misuse.
3.6 Any questions about the 1893 Ambassador programme should be sent to [email protected]
3.7 Hurtigruten provides the 1893 Ambassador programme "as-is" and in conjunction with third party programme partners who provide products and services under a direct contractual relationship with members, accordingly to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we expressly disclaim any warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to, warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, design, accuracy, capability, sufficiency, suitability, capacity, completeness or availability of such products and services.
3.8 Nothing in these terms and conditions is intended or shall be construed to create or establish any agency, partnership or joint venture relationship between Hurtigruten Global Sales AS (and any other Hurtigruten group company) and the programme partners.
3.9 These terms and conditions and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or their subject matter are governed by and construed in accordance with the law of Norway. Members consent that the venue for all disputes shall be Oslo District Court (Norwegian: Oslo Tingrett).
