Discover the history of Svalbard at The Svalbard Museum
Journey out of Longyearbyen and into the Advent Valley to fascinating Camp Barentz. Your knowledgeable local guide will share the history of the area with you before you arrive to the sound of happy huskies.
One of the experienced mushers will introduce you to the friendly polar dogs and talk about life for the dogs here in the High Arctic. Inside, tasty Norwegian waffles and coffee will be served, and you’ll be shown a presentation on the King of the Arctic – the polar bear. After your stay at the camp, your local guide will join you for the return trip to Svalbard Museum.
The Svalbard Museum chronicles the more than 400 years of history of the archipelago. As well as being full of interesting artefacts, the museum is also the best place in town to have your picture taken with a polar bear statue.
