After the canoe ride, we go on a 30 minute hike through the rain forest that leads you to Lake Pilchicocha, where native workers will be waiting to paddle you across the lake to the lodge. There will be different morning and afternoon activities offered. Start your day with a canopy walk. Located within Sacha’s private reserve this bird walk gives you the opportunity to get an up close and personal view of the rainforest canopy. As you explore the lush swaths of rainforest around Sacha Lodge, there’s an interesting phenomenon that you will surely come across – the clay licks of the Ecuadorian Amazon. It’s an odd site at first – hundreds of colorful parrots flocking to these walls of clay and eagerly licking it.
After lunch you may take a leisurely hike along the Napo River, or choose a little more challenging hike on the trail Leoncillo to try and spot the elusive dusky titi monkey.
The next day you can enjoy a tranquil canoe ride through a natural swamp, which is the home of anacondas, caimans and capybaras. Head back to the lodge for a refreshing dip in the lake or a nice relaxing nap in your personal hammock. You can also learn how to fish the infamous piranha.
