Day 1:

After disembarking the vessel taking the route to visit historic Signal Hill where the Italian inventor, Marconi, received the first trans-Atlantic wireless signal in 1901. Enjoy the magnificent panoramic view out over the city and rugged coastline while viewing the continent's easternmost point in the distance. Learn about the area's 18th-century battles and 20th-century aviation wonders.  Then, travel to Cape Spear -- an escarpment jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean and the easternmost point in North America.

Those who wish to do so can explore the Cape Spear Lighthouse -- the oldest surviving lighthouse in the province. It has been restored to its 1839 appearance and shows how a lighthouse keeper and his family might have lived in the mid-19th century.  Next, visit Newman's Wine Vault, which has a rich history that dates back to the 1600's; when it was used to mature barrels of Port Wine.  Enjoy a 1 once sample of Newman's Port Wine and a guided tour of this unique establishment, that now operates as a provincial Historic Site.
