Itinerary for your Post-Programme

The pre-night in Anchorage is part of your ship voyage from Vancouver to Seward and already included.

Day 1: Anchorage to Denali Park Entrance via Talkeetna

After breakfast at your hotel, you will journey from Anchorage to the small town of Talkeetna. Drive through the striking landscape of three major mountain ranges.

Upon arrival in Talkeetna, board luxury dome rail cars for passage north to Denali. This four-hour journey with including lunch is regarded as the most scenic stretch of the entire Anchorage – Fairbanks journey and promises . You will have memorable views of the Alaskan interior. Riding high above the terrain, you’ll be treated to panoramic views as we approach and arriving Denali. Over 6 million acres in size, Denali National Park is one of the world’s greatest wildlife preserves, and home to by North America’s tallest mountain. Most visitor facilities are grouped near the park entrance. Spend the afternoon in a choice of optional activities or simply relax and enjoy the views.

Day 2: Denali National Park

Travel into Denali National Park today on a full-day guided bus tour. This comprehensive tour travels the length of the 92-mile park road to the remote Kantishna region, an old gold mining town during the early 1900s. Your naturalist driver/guide will help you search for bears, caribou, Dall sheep, and moose while explaining the geologic history of the park. Upon arrival in Kantishna, enjoy a two-hour stop for lunch at a wilderness lodge and an optional activity. There will also be a National Park Service Ranger from Wonder Lake to answer any questions and provide additional information on the area. The return trip provides a different perspective of the park. Overnight at a lodge at Denali Park Entrance.

Please note: When you travel in May the road conditions will most likely only allow a tour to the Toklat River for a sub-arctic experience and incredible scenery with some of the best opportunities to view and photograph wildlife (about 53 miles per way, 6-7 hours). A boxed snack and hot beverages are offered on the tour. 

Day 3: Denali Park Entrance to Anchorage

Today you will travel south from Denali National Park to Anchorage on the Parks Highway. Stop along the way at Happy Trails Kennel to be greeted by 30 to 60 excited sled dogs. The Happy Trails Kennel tour begins with a virtual trip along the Iditarod trail via a video narrated by Iditarod champion Martin Buser. There is also a visit to a mockup Iditarod checkpoint where life on the trail is described including how the dogs are cared for. The tour concludes with puppy playtime and a dog sled demonstration. At the conclusion of your tour, you continue on to Anchorage. The rest of the day is at your leisure and the night is spent in Anchorage.

Day 4: Anchorage, Departure

Breakfast at your hotel marks the end of your Post-Programme.

Practical Information

The price includes one night at a hotel in Anchorage, two nights at a lodge at Denali Park Entrance, including breakfast, private transportation with English-speaking driver/guide, Alaska Railroad passage in luxury dome cars, excursions and admission fees as described, 2 x lunch, gratuities for driver and guides, applicable taxes and fees.

Not included: meals, unless specified  

Remarks and requirements

  • This tour is available as a Post-Programme in combination with your voyage ending in Seward/Anchorage.
  • This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility.
  • If the minimum number of participants is not reached, we reserve the right to cancel the land adventure up to six weeks before departure.
