This page summarises the requirements for entry to Chile, as well as Hurtigruten Expedition’s procedures. Please be sure to read it carefully, as you will be required to follow these procedures during your trip.

During this time, regulations and medical advice can change, and the information included here is subject to change. We will do our best to update the information as soon as possible if any changes occur, but  it may take some time as changes ofthen happen fast and witout notice.

Please ensure you fulfill all the requirements mentioned below before you travel. If you are not able to meet these requirements, you will be denied boarding and may not be able to enter Chile. Please contact us if this is the case.

Before leaving for Chile

1. Vaccination, vaccine certificate and Mobility Pass

  • All guests must be fully vaccinated with a vaccine approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) or World Health Organization (WHO), according to Hurtigruten Expedition’s procedures. The vaccines must also comply with local regulations in the area of your expedition cruise. Chile currently accepts EMA and WHO approved vaccines. International arrivals do not require a booster COVID-19 vaccination to enter Chile.
  • Regulations and travel restrictions are constantly changing and may vary across countries. Guests are responsible for ensuring that they are considered fully vaccinated by the health authorities of each country on their sailing.

Hurtigruten Expeditions reserves the right to deny embarkation to guests who do not fulfil the current regulations of each country on the sailing.

  • Vaccination Certificate: Certificates may be in an electronic or paper format. However, they must be officially approved by the country´s health authority in the country where you were vaccinated or be in the form of a letter from the medical provider that administered the vaccination. The letter must meet the following criteria: include the name of the vaccinated person matching the registered cruise guest with date of birth;(DoB), the dates of the completed vaccination cycle, the administering physical or medical services provider, and the manufacturer of the vaccine issued.

The certificate will be checked upon embarkation. You may also be required to present this during your journey and cruise upon request by medical staff or public health authorities.

  • Mobility Pass: All guests must validate and register their vaccines on the following web page to receive a Mobility Pass

This is a requirement from the Chilean authorities and must be completed prior to entering Chile. Chilean authorities state that the processing time is 15-45 days. Once the processing is finalized, you will receive permission to enter Chile. Please take a copy of the permission with you. The permission to enter Chile is valid for 45 days. Please allow enough time to finalize the form.

You will not be allowed to enter Chile without a Mobility Pass.

5. PCR test before leaving for Chile

  • Within the last 72 hours before you embark your last flight that take you to Chile, you must take a PCR test and have a negative result. If you have several flight connections, the 72 hours are calculated from the time you embark on your last plane to Chile.

Please note that you need proof of a negative test result to submit the affidavit (see section 6 below). We recommend that you bring a paper copy of the test certificate with you.

7. Passport

  • Remember to bring your passport. Boarding will be denied if your passport is not presented at check-in.

Please note: you may need to provide copies of the Mobility Pass, the affidavit, the negative PCR test, proof of vaccination and the insurance coverage to the airline before boarding the flight to Chile. You may also be requested to show those documents to the Chilean authorities upon arrival in Chile.

After entering Chile

8. PCR test in Chile

  • All guests will be required to undergo a PCR test at the airport, including those who have a booster dose. This is a requirement set by the Chilean authorities and carried out in the airport. Results may be available up to 48hrs after taking the test. You will be provided with a web link to check your result and download your certificate. Transfer to the hotel in Santiago by taxi or Hurtigruten transfer and remain there until the transfer to the charter flight.

  • As part of the Hurtigruten Expeditions travel protocols you must test negative prior to joining the charter flight. As there is a risk that the Chilean entry PCR test result may not arrive in time we will conduct a further PCR test on arrival at the hotel (the day prior to departure).

Hurtigruten Expedition require all guests to have a negative PCR test result within the last 72 hours before embarking the expedition cruise. Guests who have booked flights with Hurtigruten will arrive in Chile 24 to 48 hours before the start of the expedition cruise and may use this test to embark the cruise. If you have made alternative arrangements for flights and therefore arrive in Chile more than 72 hours before the Expedition Cruise, you must make arrangements to have a PCR test in Chile within the last 72 hours before embarkation.

9. Travel in Chile

  • In order to comply with Chilean travel regulations, all travel needs to be by private transfer, from Santiago airport to the hotel. This can be a Hurtigruten transfer or a taxi. If you would like to book a Hurtigruten transfer, please contact us at least 6 weeks prior to departure.
