Experience Longyearbyen by electric bike, with a fantastic King Crab meal at Funktionærmessen Restaurant. Awarded the 'best total experience' award in the Top of the Town awards in Longyearbyen, this lovely restaurant offer the most amazing views over the town, and specialised in the best of Arctic produce, including King Crab.

The tour starts at your hotel, where you will meet your guides and have a briefing on the tour. You will then be equipped with helmets and electric bikes, and begin the tour with a sightseeing trip around Longyearbyen, stopping at some of the most interesting and scenic sights, including the polar bear sign, views over the town from outside Svalbard Church, and a drive past the iconic 'Spissehus' - the colourful houses of Longyearbyen which have pride of place on many a postcard.

The guide will make stops to tell you about the local area and the history of the region, before it is time to make your way up to Longyearbyen's favourite restaurant, Funktionærmessen. Here you will be served a delicious King Crab meal, with softdrinks, as you enjoy the panoramic views over the area, and your guide's stories.

Finally, it is time to get back on the bikes, and make your way back to the hotel. Enjoy some time on your own leisure to explore the town of Longyearbyen before you will get picked up at your hotel at 17.30 for your transfer to the ship.   

Practical information

  • Remarks/requirements: Dress casually, but warm with windproof outerwear and sensible shoes.
  • Walking information: Generally flat with some uneven terrain.
  • Wheelchair accessible: This excursion is not suitable for passengers with wheelchairs or who cannot ride a normal bicycle.

  • Participants are personally responsible for any damage to the bicycle. We use solid electric bicycles which are perfect for the rough and loose terrain, giving you the perfect combination of grip, comfort and stability.
  • Note: Safety is our highest priority, and the guide needs to be able to give directions you understand. To participate on one of our excursions, it is required that you speak and understand English or one of the Scandinavian languages.
