Starting in Stamsund, this excursion will take you on a tour through Lofoten’s many fishing villages and towns. Our first stop is Torvdalshalsen, a rest stop with a gorgeous view across the fjord. We’ll continue on to Kabelvåg, where the commercial part of the Lofoten fishing industry started, more than 1000 years ago.
Here, we’ll visit Galleri Espolin, which has the largest collection of the work of beloved artist Kaare Espolin Johnson. Close to the gallery lies the Lofoten Museum, where you can find out about local fishing history. In the medieval town Vågar, you’ll find the main building is from the year 1815, along with authentic fishermen’s cabins, and boat houses featuring Nordland boats.
Our last stop is in Kabelvåg, where we’ll visit Vågan Church, also known as the Lofoten Cathedral. The church was built in 1898 in the Gothic Revival style, and is one of Norway’s largest churches.
