AftercrossingVíkurskard-pass weviewFnjoskadalurvalley, wherecleargeologicalremains from glacial and post glacial times can be seen. The first stop is by Godafoss falls - oneofthe most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland; the water ofthe river Skjalfandafljot falls from a heightof 12 m over a widthof 30 m. In 1000 A.D., at themeetingoftheAlthing, theIcelandersvoted to adoptChristianity. The wooden idols oftheNorsemythologywerethrownintothe falls in a symbolicgesturethatsweptawaythe old religion. Thus the Godafoss literally meansthe "Waterfall ofthe Gods”. From therewe drive directly to the Lake Myvatn area, stopping by theuniquecraters at Skutustadirbeforehavinglunch. AfterlunchwevisittheDimmuborgir lava labyrinth, a paradiseoftowering lava castles, naturalarches and countlessunexploredgrottosthencontinue to the gurgling purple and yellowsulphurcauldrons at thehightemperaturethermalfieldofNamaskard, whichare so hot thattheyactuallyboil. We head back to Akureyri withshort city sightseeing en route.

Walking information: ALL WALKING IS OPTIONAL and most sites can be viewed through the motor coach windows. There are no actual steps at most of the stops at the time of writing, but some inclined surface levels occur. Surface underfoot is grass/mud/gravel and there are rough pathways throughout. Anyone with mobility challenges is kindly asked to travel in the company of an able bodied career or request assistance from the ship.
