Fort Boyard is a small island-fortress 68m long and 31m wide built over and artificial platform set on an underwater bank. Completely surrounded by water, the fort stands alone in the middle of the sea between Île d’Aix and Île d’Oléron, protecting the approaches to arsenal of Rochefort. Due to its challenging location, construction took over fifty years between 1801 and 1857.
While tendering you to Île d’Aix we will make a detour towards the fort, sail around its small perimeter and then continue towards our landing site. We might also do it in reverse, sailing around the fort on our way back to the ship.
