After venturing through Landes de Gascogne forest, we arrive at Arcachon Bay, known for its pristine waters constantly renewed by the tide and thousands of migratory birds that visit each year.
Stopping in Le Pyla, we set off on a trek up the highest sand dune in Europe. Wooden stairs allow for easier climbing of the first half of the dune’s 110 m (360 ft) high summit. The reward at the top is sweeping views of Arcachon Bay, the Landes pine forest and the sea.
Having enjoyed a splendid view of Arcachon Bay, hop on a coach and continue to the little oyster farming port of La Teste-de-Buch and stop for a gourmet break at an oyster farm. Here an oyster farmer will explain oyster cultivation and then invite you to taste fresh oysters from his production, with bread & butter, and a glass of dry white wine.
