It is worth the short hike to the highest point on Isla Bastimentos, not only for the panoramic views of the surrounding islands, but for the chance to visit the Bocas Sustainable Farm.

After a 15-minute boat ride and a 30-minute upland hike, you reach this organic farm that turns cacao into one of the world’s favourite consumables. Learn about their permaculture, the cacao growing and chocolate process, and their sustainability efforts.

Your guided tour will display the farm’s great respect for the environment, from their solar-powered energy panels to their rain catchment system. During the dry season, fresh spring water is their back-up source. They also recycle plastic, aluminium, cardboard and glass, and their compost is turned into organic waste. The local laurel, nispero and cedar trees were used in the construction of their shop and cabins as part of their reforestation project.

At the end of your inspiring visit, you will be rewarded with a chocolate tasting and snack, with time to browse their shop filled with chocolate delights and coconut-based natural body products.
