After signing waivers and receiving a short instructional and safety speech, you embark into 5-metre long, two-man canoes designed for the waters of south-east Alaska.
The route takes you along the coast into Wrangell Harbor, where your local guides point out fishing boats of various kinds, canneries and their functions, and any wildlife seen along the way.
After paddling by the only remaining covered boatyard in Alaska, we stop at Chief Shakes Tribal House, where totem poles surround the traditionally built, historical long house, home to the Wrangell Tlingit tribe. Inside, participate in a presentation of the history and culture of the local Tlingit by members of the tribe. Upon completion of the narrative, you paddle back to the cruise ship dock.
