Along the way your naturalist guide shares knowledge and perspective on the region`s natural and cultural history - and some of his or her favourite local stories.

Your guide chooses from several excellent trails for your Mendenhall Glacier hike. This are based upon the day’s hiking conditions. Weather will be of special consideration. Conditions in this region of mountains and fjords change quickly and dramatically. You may find yourself hiking high above a shimmering glacial lake or along a mossy covered glacier moraine.  Explore lush habitat and learn more about the significance and secrets of the Tongass National Forest.

During much of the hike, the views are panoramic and encompass expanses of glacier-carved wilderness. Wildlife is often sighted, but not guaranteed. There are many opportunities for photography along the trail, and frequent interpretive stops. Join us as we, in the words of John Muir, ‘climb to the mountains to get their good tidings’.
