Stretching nearly two kilometres, the trail we take is well-maintained and family friendly for children as young as eight years old.
Wildlife sightings are common, and you may see eagles, waterfowls, whales, seals, bears and moose. Be sure to bring along your camera to capture every memorable moment.
Along the way, your guide gladly shares information about the area and explains Native Alaskan uses for the various plants encountered along the trail. As the trail slowly rises, the sensational panorama of snow-capped mountains and the town of Haines come into view. From this vantage point you can even see Chilkat Inlet to the south and Chilkoot Inlet to the north.
The rocky forest trail, broken with dense tree roots, leads down to a pebbled beach - the perfect spot for a leisurely picnic snack of delicious smoked salmon, cheese and crackers and other refreshments. As you stand on the beach, keep your eyes open for seals, sea lions and the tell-tale blows or flukes of humpback whales. After lunch, you’ll hike along the same scenic route, rejoin your transport and return to the pier.
