Drums have been used for thousands of years in Native Cultures. They offer a connection to the spirit world and our ancestors. They lead us in ceremonies and gatherings, provide our dancers with a beat, and have even been said to have healing power to the body. Join us after the presentation at the Cordova Center to hear this traditional instrument played, learn its history and meaning, and create your own 10" round wooden frame stretched-hide Native drum. All materials are included, and guidance is given by a member of the Native Village of Eyak. After crafting your drum, it will need to air dry on both sides and may take up to 1-2 days.
