Today, Norway is one of the world’s largest producers of oil – a legacy that began in the mid-1960s, when the discovery of oil changed the path of a nation.
At the Norwegian Petroleum Museum in Stavanger, you will learn about how oil and gas were created millions of years ago, how petroleum is found, and how it is used. The museum also provides insight into technological developments in the petroleum sector and how this industry has affected Norwegian society.
Explore interactive and educational exhibitions that cover a variety of topics – from the lives of offshore workers and their families, to the challenges of climate change.

Walking information: At guests’ discretion. The museum is located about 1km walking distance from the port, through the charming streets of Stavanger. Transportation to the museum is not included.
